Description
Why Does Constipation Happen?
Constipation is when bowel movements become less frequent and harder to pass. This usually occurs due to a the following reasons;
- Stress, anxiety or depression
- Side effects of medicine
- Not drinking enough fluids
- Not eating enough fibre
- Not moving enough and spending extended periods sitting down or in bed
- Sudden change in diet
- Not being active enough
Constipation is also common during pregnancy and for 6 weeks after giving birth. It’s also very common within menopausal women. This is because due to fluctuating hormone levels, the rate of cortisol (a stress related hormone) wildly fluctuates. When oestrogen levels are low, cortisol is high resulting in constipation. This can slow down the digestive process, lengthening the amount of time it takes for food to break down. This can make stool more difficult to pass. Another reason for constipation during menopause is a weekend pelvic floor. When this happens it restricts your ability to pass a stool, especially when this is paired with a hard or dry stool.
Rarely, constipation may be caused by a medical condition.
Benefits of Fruit Fibre for Constipation
Our fruit fibre powder is chock full of fibre which is key in treating constipation. The reason for this is that fibre helps soften your stool making it easier to pass. Alongside this fibre also helps increase the weight and size of one’s stool making it considerably easier to pass. A bulky stool is easier to pass, decreasing your chance of constipation. If you have loose, watery stools, fibre may help to solidify the stool because it absorbs water and adds bulk to stool. As well as this our Fruit Fibre can help lower the risk of haemorrhoids and small pouches in your colon.
