What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a set of inflammatory conditions which affects the tissue surrounding the teeth.

In its early stages, it is known as gingivitis and commonly the symptoms include swollen and red gums which are susceptible to bleeding. Gum disease is known as the leading cause of up to 90% of tooth losses worldwide.
