Description
Leakage From The Gut
Leaky gut syndrome is a digestive condition that affects the lining of the intestines. In leaky gut syndrome, gaps in the intestinal walls allow bacteria and other toxins to pass into the bloodstream. Many doctors and healthcare professionals do not recognise leaky gut syndrome as a diagnosable condition.
Causes
A possible cause of a leaky gut is increased intestinal permeability or intestinal hyperpermeability. That could happen when tight junctions in the gut, which control what passes through the lining of the small intestine, don’t work properly. That could let substances leak into the bloodstream.
Other possible causes of LGS could be poor nutrition, alcohol consumption, infections, autoimmune disorders e.g. lupus, diabetes and stress.
A protein called zonulin is the only known regulator of intestinal permeability. When it’s activated, it can lead to a leaky gut, triggered by bacteria in the intestines and gluten. The intestines also play an essential role in protecting the body from harmful bacteria and toxins.
Diseases Associated With Leaky Gut
Symptoms
Leaky gut shares many of its symptoms with other health conditions. This can make the condition difficult for doctors to identify. It can have symptoms that range from bloating, gas, cramps, pains and aches to food sensitivity.
Other symptoms could include:
- chronic diarrhoea
- nutritional deficiencies
- fatigue
- headaches
- confusion
- difficulty concentrating
- skin problems
- inflammation
Other Health Conditions
LGS may contribute to other health conditions. Examples include:
- irritable bowel syndrome
- Crohn’s disease
- celiac disease
- chronic liver disease
- diabetes
- food allergies and sensitivities
- polycystic ovary syndrome
Digestive Relief
Digestive Relief contains ingredients that are known to help with spasms in the digestive tract, as well as improve digestion altogether. They can also help ease an upset stomach, as well as gas, constipation and diarrhoea. Its anti-inflammatory properties that are contained in fennel seed and ginger root can help with bloating which stems from IBS.
