Description
Saccharomyces boulardii yeast
Saccharomyces boulardii is a unique, non-pathogenic and tropical yeast (fungus) – a hardy, acid-resistant, temperature-tolerant micro-organism. It differs greatly from other better-known species, such as acidophilus and bifidobacterium bacteria strains for example. Although it is in the same genus as Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker’s, brewer’s or dietary yeast), Saccharomyces boulardii is not linked to the Candida species (Candida albicans, tropicalas, etc.). Saccharomyces boulardii yeast was first isolated from lychee and mangosteen fruit in the 1920s by a French scientist called Henri Boulard.
Biotin
Biotin is a water-soluble B-vitamin, also called vitamin B7 and formerly known as vitamin H or coenzyme R. It contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal functioning of the nervous system, normal macronutrient metabolism, normal psychological function, normal hair and skin and the maintenance of normal mucous membranes.
Vitamin D3
Vitamin D refers to a group of fat-soluble secosteroids. In humans, the most important compounds in this group are vitamin D3 (also known as cholecalciferol) and vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol). Vitamin D3 is included in the Gut Serenity formula.
Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system and healthy inflammatory response, normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, normal blood calcium levels, the maintenance of normal bones, the maintenance of normal muscle function, the maintenance of normal teeth, it has a role in the process of cell division and is needed for normal growth and development of bone in children.
Olive leaf extract
The olive tree has long been held in great esteem, not least for producing both the fruit and the oil. In fact, it is one of the oldest cultivated trees. But the leaf is also noteworthy, not least because it contains oleuropein (a type of phenolic compound) and elenolic acid.
Constipation
Constipation is generally described as having fewer than three bowel movements a week. Though occasional constipation is very common, some people experience chronic constipation that can interfere with their ability to go about their daily tasks.
Symptoms of constipation include going for a poo fewer than 3 times a week and finding it hard to poo.
The most common causes include:
- not eating enough fibre – such as fruit, vegetables and cereals
- not drinking enough fluids
- not moving enough and spending long periods sitting or lying in bed
- being less active and not exercising
- often ignoring the urge to go to the toilet
- changing your diet or daily routine
- a side effect of medicine
- stress, anxiety or depression
Making simple changes to your diet and lifestyle can help treat constipation. You may notice a difference within a few days. Sometimes it takes a few weeks before your symptoms improve, if the problems still arise you can consult your doctor to recommend a laxative, although you should be aware they should only be used for a short period of time.
But what should you do if the Bloating hasn’t decreased?
Research suggests that an imbalance in gut bacteria contributes to certain types of constipation, including irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. A good quality probiotic supplement like Gut Serenity helps support a balanced gut. Therefore, it helps reduce constipation symptoms.
One of Gut Serenity’s main ingredients is Vitamin D3. Chronic functional constipation is strongly linked to vitamin D deficiency and having a healthy intake of Vitamin D has been proved to help constipation massively. Vitamin D3 also improves the maintenance of normal muscle function and the health of teeth.
Bloating
Bloating is where your stomach feels full, tight and uncomfortable. Bloating is very common, occurring in 16–31% of the general population. It makes you feel full and your belly tight and uncomfortable. The most common reason for bloating is having a lot of gas in your gut.
Bloating can be a chronic problem that causes moderate to severe symptoms and negatively affects the quality of life. Studies have shown probiotics such as Gut Serenity improved bloating and regularity in some people with IBS.
There are a plethora of ways you can improve your gut health and lessen the risk of bloating, these may include, checking for food intolerances, lowering stress levels and exercising.
Cramping, bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, rashes, nausea, fatigue, and acid reflux are all symptoms of food intolerance. You can try eliminating common trigger foods to see if your symptoms improve.
Chronic high levels of stress are hard on your body, especially your gut. Stress can impact your bowel movement thus giving you bloating. Some ways to lower stress levels may include meditation, walking, or yoga.
Lack of exercise impacts your gut health massively, little exercise equals a higher chance of bloating. It is important regularly to improve your digestion and help prevent bloating – exercise can also help when you’re feeling bloated.
Gut Serenity
VitaProHealth’s Gut Serenity supplements contain 4 main ingredients designed to improve gut health and bloating, these include, Vitamin D3, Biotin, Saccharomyces boulardii yeast and Olive Leaf Extract.
The gut microbiome is connected to digestive health. Gut bacteria helps break down carbohydrates, like starch and fibre, that we cannot digest ourselves. Through this fermentation process, they produce byproducts called short-chain fatty acids, which have been shown to help support digestive health.
Another by-product of this process is gas, which is fine in moderation of course, but some strains of bacteria produce more gas than others. When these gassy bacteria outnumber the healthy bacteria in the gut, too much gas can build up and contribute to bloating and abdominal discomfort.
This is where our product Gut Serenity comes in.
Gut serenities Probiotics contain healthy bacteria that you can take in supplemental form to balance out the numbers back in your favour and help keep the numbers of unhealthy bacteria at bay.
