Description
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is usually caused by a lifelong calcium deficiency. Low calcium intake contributes to a diminished bone density leading to weekend bones and making you highly likely to receive bone fractures. Severely restricting food intake and starving the body of its needed nutrients weakens the bones, leading to osteoporosis.
How likely you are to develop osteoporosis depends partly on how much bone mass you attained in your youth. Peak bone mass is partly inherited and varies also by ethnic group. The higher your peak bone mass, the more bone you have “in the bank” and the less likely you are to develop osteoporosis as you age.
Symptoms to look out for
- Back pain, caused by a fractured or collapsed vertebra
- A stooped posture
- Loss of height over time
- Bone’s breaking more easily than expected
- Sore and achy joints
Osteoporosis affects men and women of all races. But white and Asian women, especially older women who are past menopause, are at the highest risk. Medications, a healthy diet and weight-bearing exercise can help prevent bone loss or strengthen already weak bones.
How We Can Help
VitaProHealth’s Routine Magnesium Capsules are full of magnesium, a mineral that plays an important role in maintaining a healthy skeleton. Magnesium is linked to increasing bone density and helping prevent early-onset osteoporosis.
Most people don’t get enough magnesium in their diet so our supplements are ideal to recoup this. Since magnesium works closely with calcium, it is important to have an appropriate ratio of both minerals in order for them to be effective.
A good rule of thumb is a 2:1 calcium-to-magnesium ratio. For example, if you take 1000mg of calcium, you should also take 500mg of magnesium.
You can also increase your intake of magnesium by eating magnesium-rich foods. Food sources that are high in magnesium include:
- Brown rice
- Buckwheat
- Corn
- Dandelion greens
- Dark green vegetables
- Legumes
- Nuts (almonds, cashew, brazil)
- Rye
- Seeds (sunflower, sesame, pumpkin)
- Wheat germ/bran
- Whole grain cereals
